There are differences between gas and electrical energy. Gas is seen very much as the main source of global warming and coming up with new measures to offset gas based emissions into the atmosphere has been a major goal for climate change groups and now government. Electrical energy, however, can be used in renewable ways and is seen as a cost effective way of lowering emissions and a greener form of energy. Electrical energy, meanwhile, can now be generated in several, environmentally friendly, ways. This is in contrast to gas, which is one of the most significant polluters of the environment. Burning fossil fuels and coal gases most commonly released into the atmosphere, whilst electricity is becoming more off putting for people based on rising prices and incidents. Electricity, unlike gas, is a renewable source. Therefore electricity can be reused and this is reflected in its cost - renewable energy is increasingly costing less, as people not only look for the cheapest electricity supplier but also try to find the cheapest electricity supplier in an era of rising costs.
Green electricity, however, is being looked to more for people to both save money and be kinder to the environment. This green energy includes wind power, generated through wind turbines, which is on the rise and provides no emissions. Solar energy heats water and, because of its proximity to the sun, uses sunlight to generate electricity. Biomass, the burning of plants and crops also reduces emissions as any excesses gas is burned. Therefore, in terms of the environment, gas and electrical energy are very different.
An example of where gas may be seen as superior to electrical energy is with gas cookers. Gas cookers are the preferred type by professional chefs and cooks because of the quickness and efficiency with which it heats food. Electric cookers have not quite won the hearts of these chefs, but because they are modern and not emitting gas into the atmosphere they are becoming more popular. Also, gas prices can be cost effective if people compare gas prices; with many online gas price comparison websites this is now possible.
Electrical energy is more in supply and abundant, it is easier to generate using natural environmentally friendly resources, and can be cost saving both through renewable forms but also through customers searching price comparison websites for the best deals. Gas is still useful but the main difference is the effect on the environment and its non-renewable disadvantages. Emissions from gases and the nature of gas prices mean electrical energy's status is rising.
