Indonesia Bisa™ - If you are using WordPress to power your business site and/or your blog you know and understand how user friendly it is and how expandable it can be. You can pretty much get WordPress to do and look like anything you want because of plugins. Plugins are software created by various WordPress users to extend the functionality of your site. In WordPress there thousands of plugins, some excellent and some not so great, so it can be very hard to decided what plugins you need for your site. I decided to create a list of Essential WordPress Plugins that I use in order to keep my site functional, but my list got a bit long for one post. So Today's list is Part I of 5 Essential WordPress Plugins.

Askimet: This is a must. If you do not what spam comments and track backs to your website you must have a way of filtering through the hundreds of thousands of spam you can get on a daily basis. This plugin will help you with that. In fact this plugin is so essential that it's already located in your plugins section once you download your WordPress site. In order for this plugin to work you must go over to Askimet and get your Askimet API key. If you have a blog on WordPress.com you should have a key already.

Broken Link Checker: This is a life saver. Every now and then a site or a page you may link to has either disappeared or something and the link no longer work. IF you have a relatively new site you may not have that many links or pages to sift through to find that broken link, but if you have a blog or a mord established site you may have 30 -50 pages (or more) and sifting through all those pages to find broken links on a regular basis can be tedious. You can always hire a virtual assistant to find them for you, but you must ask yourself is that a good use of that persons time. With broken link checker it will check all the links through your site on a regular basis (you provide the time) and notify you via email or within your WordPress dashboard of the broken links. What's great about this plugin is it will let you know exactly what page the link is on and you can fix the link right from the broken link checker dashboard.

Google Analytics for WordPress: If you do not have tracking software on your site, please slap your hand right now. How do you know how well or how bad your marketing efforts are? How do you know what's working so you can do it again. How are you able to know what people are reading on your site or what keywords people are using to get to your site? Tracking is very important if you want to be a successful entrepreneur. Google Analytics makes this easy (and Free) to do with their analytics tool. Prior to this plugin you would have to manually install the code, which can get a little messy. But now with Google analytics for WordPress all you need is your UA - number and you are good to go.

Contact Form: We all need to have a contact us page on our site. And it's always great to have an actual form that people can use to email you right away. Well I have two plugins that I use. The first is Contact Form 7. This form is great! It allows you to create and customize a simple contact us form, to a more complex questionnaire. But the form I really enjoy right now is Fast Secure Contact Form. Not only can you customize the form, but it also has a built in autoresponder which I absolutely love.

SEO Plugins: Finally and very importantly is Search Engine Optimization (SEO). We all know how important keyword research is if we want to be found and ranked highly on Google. But we don't always know where to use these keywords (in your title tags, description etc). WordPress has some great plugins that can help you be your own SEO specialist. All in one SEO and Platinum SEO are great tools to help you. What's the difference between the two? Your preference. They both seem to do a great job in my opinion; however platinum seo gives you more options as far as index, noindex and so forth.

As you can see from the short list above there are plenty of plugins that can be used to extend your blog or website. However, the trick before adding random plugins is to know what it is you want and need your website to do for your. Don't just add plugins just because. Be very careful and look at the reviews, number of stars, a plugin has because that's a good indicator of the reliability of that particular plugin. - Indonesia Bisa™
